Driving Waste Reduction Across All Our Business Lines

FLOW – Fighting to Limit Our Waste - is our global anti-waste program, designed to reduce waste across all our business lines. FLOW program exists to turn every store into an active contributor to a more circular and responsible model, as waste is a growing environmental, economic and social challenge for all retailers and operators. With 6% of global CO₂ emissions linked to food waste, reducing waste has become a key expectation from regulators, airports.

FLOW is built around five pillars - measure, engage, optimize operational procedures, store promotions on expiring products, and manage excess food. This framework ensures that waste prevention becomes part of daily routines, supported by training, clear Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs), and regular monitoring. From smart pilots to staff engagement modules available on online training platforms, every tool has been designed to make progress easy to track.

Building Partnerships that make sense

To Good To Go Platform 3D render showing an app

Reducing waste is a collective effort, and partnering with the right organizations is essential to create impact at scale. This is why we invest time and energy in building strong, relevant partnerships that reinforce our operational commitments. Our collaboration with Too Good To Go, the global antiwaste app that has already demonstrated its effectiveness on the market, is a clear example of this approach.

Through this partnership, we deployed the Too Good To Go Platform in our stores, a simple, modular tool that helps teams identify near expiry products earlier, apply the right markdowns at the right time, and reduce waste more efficiently. The system automates expiry checks, provides daily recommendations directly on handheld devices, and can save teams up to one hour per day on routine controls. This makes waste reduction easier, more reliable, and fully aligned with our FLOW program, while supporting operational excellence across our network.expiry products earlier, apply the right markdowns at the right time, and reduce waste more efficiently. Responsible Packaging & Waste Reduction

Within the Planet pillar of our PEPS strategy, we focus on three major levers across all our operations: responsible bags, responsible consumables, and alternative solutions to single‑use water bottles, complemented by measures to reduce logistics waste across our supply chain. Together, these actions contribute to our ambition to move towards more circular and lower‑impact operations.

Responsible bags & consumables

Across our global network, teams are transitioning to responsible consumables and eco‑designed bags, supported by our internal Material Guidelines, which are based on life‑cycle assessment principles. These guidelines help markets choose materials with a lower environmental footprint and phase out single-use plastic wherever possible. At the end of 2025, 100% of our operations have switched to responsible bags and disposables, and we continue working to onboard new markets as we expand.

This initiative means:

  • Clear sourcing criteria for bags and takeaway consumables
  • A preference for recycled, recyclable, compostable or certified materials
  • Consistent guidance for teams to make the most sustainable choice, every day

    Rethinking Water Bottles

Water bottles are one of the most purchased items in travel retail, which makes them a critical category in our waste‑reduction efforts, especially regarding plastic bottles. We are accelerating the shift toward lower‑impact solutions, with a growing proportion of our assortment transitioning to 100% recycled RPET, in line with our ambition to reach roughly 75% of the offer in full RPET where regulations allow.

At the same time, we are actively expanding alternatives to single‑use plastic across our network. Several countries are testing or deploying water fountains, returnable formats, and non‑plastic options, providing travelers with more responsible choices while helping us reduce the environmental footprint of this high‑volume category. These pilots allow us to identify scalable solutions that align with both operational realities and airport expectations.

Together, these efforts reflect our commitment to rethinking how water is offered in travel environments and ensuring that lower‑impact options become increasingly accessible across our points of sale.

Tackling Waste in our Supply Chain

Beyond in-store materials, reducing waste in our supply chain remains essential. We work closely with our partners to optimize packaging upstream, avoid unnecessary wrapping, and explore ways to decrease overstock and food waste in logistics flows.

Through FLOW, countries track and measure waste, implement operational SOPs, and roll out donation or redistribution mechanisms to prevent products from becoming waste in the first place.
